When Guitar Hero was released for the Wii, it became one of the most popular games ever. My mom bought one for me and my uncle as well and we enjoy rocking out to the greatest rock songs of all time. Other games promise to compete, including Rock Band and the latest, Popstar Guitar.
PopStar Guitar (XS Games) for the Wii unfortunately does not live up to the other hits such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Unlike Guitar Hero or Rock Band, you use the Popstar Guitar AirG, which snaps on top of the Wii remotes instead of using an actual guitar shaped controller. I wasn't so thrilled about the AirG, because it was a little hard to use. The Wii remote also needs to be hooked up with the Wii Numchuck to be able to strum the guitar. The AirG is good for people who like to conserve space, rather than having the Guitar Hero guitar which takes up a good amount of space.
The songs of PopStar Guitar offer a wider and more modern selection than any other music-based game. From bands such as Simple Plan to the Jonas Brothers to Fall Out Boy, and pop sensations such as Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Avril Lavigne. And many more big hits. This video game isn't just for people who like to rock but people with enjoy a wide variety of music. That is one thing I very much liked about the video game. One reason I didn't enjoy the songs, is that some of them were not sung by the real singers. Though some sounded very close, a few were way off. Yet some to my belief were the exact same singers.
PopStar Guitar offered some new features that aren't available in Guitar Hero or Rock Band for the Wii. For example, you can customize your band (not in Rock Band) and give each band member a new look to your liking. You can change their instruments, clothing, face and even their names. The customization is alright and actually quite fun. Another cool feature is that you can play multiplayer mini games. The mini games are fun; you battle somebody else, striving to beat your opponent.
